Governor Pushes Native Tree Plantation Drive At Oxygen Park

Agartala, May 22 (FD) A strong call for the preservation of native plant species marked the observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity at Oxygen Park on Thursday morning. The programme was attended by Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, who underlined the importance of expanding plantations of tree species naturally abundant in Tripura.
During the event, the Governor emphasized that greater attention should be given to planting bamboo varieties, agarwood trees, tea plants, and other indigenous species that contribute significantly to the ecological balance and biodiversity of the state. He stated that protecting native flora is essential for maintaining environmental sustainability and strengthening Tripura’s green cover.
The Governor also visited the Orchidarium and Fernarium inside Oxygen Park, where officials from the Forest Department briefed him on the different species of orchids and ferns preserved at the facility. He appreciated the department’s efforts in conserving rare and valuable plant species.
As part of the programme, the Governor planted an agarwood sapling within the park premises, symbolizing the state’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness.
The event was attended by Forest Department Secretary R K Shyamal, PCCF and TFDPC Managing Director P L Agrawal, PCCF (APR and Protection) Chaitanya Murti, along with several senior officials of the Forest Department. The information was shared through an official statement from Lok Bhavan. FD SB
