Agartala, Aug 15 (FD) Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Friday paid solemn tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, freedom fighters and the brave martyrs of the nation as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Agartala. The Governor visited several important memorials across the city and honoured the sacrifices that paved the way for India’s freedom.
The Governor first visited Murti Prangan at the Circuit House in Agartala, where he offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. He then proceeded to Gandhi Bedi at Gandhighat and paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi by offering flowers at the memorial.
Later, Governor Nallu visited the martyrs’ pedestal at Albert Ekka Park in Lichubagan, where he paid homage to the freedom fighters and martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the country. He offered floral tributes at the memorial and remembered their courage, dedication and patriotism with deep reverence.
The programmes reflected the significance of Independence Day and the enduring contribution of those who fought for India’s freedom. The Governor also highlighted the responsibilities of the present generation in protecting and strengthening the values for which the nation’s freedom fighters sacrificed their lives.
Speaking to journalists after the programmes, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu described India as the world’s largest democracy and underlined the immense potential of its large and dynamic youth population. He said the country’s youth have an important role to play in accelerating national development and contributing to India’s progress.
The Governor called upon young people to actively participate in initiatives aimed at building a “Viksit Bharat” or developed India, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. He said the energy, ideas, innovation and sense of responsibility of the youth could become a major force behind the country’s transformation.
He further urged the younger generation to uphold patriotism, discipline, social responsibility and harmony while making meaningful contributions to society and the nation.
Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath was present during the Governor’s programmes and also paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs. In his message, Nath recalled the fearless contribution of the Indian armed forces and freedom fighters, describing their courage, sacrifice and patriotism as an enduring source of inspiration.
Nath said the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes remain deeply connected with the country’s history and called upon citizens to follow their ideals in building a strong, self-reliant and prosperous India.
Governor’s Secretary U. K. Chakma and officials of the district administration were also present during the programmes. FD SB
