Agartala, July 25 (FD) Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Saturday undertook an extensive tour of North Tripura's Dharmanagar subdivision, visiting educational, agricultural and rural livelihood projects while interacting with students, farmers and local residents to review ongoing development initiatives.
According to an official statement issued by Raj Bhavan, the Governor's second day of his Dharmanagar visit began with an inspection of the historic Jail Café located within the old district jail premises. During the visit, he advised officials to preserve the original structure and architectural features of the former jail while ensuring its proper conservation.
The Governor later visited Uptakhali SB School under Yubarajnagar Block, where he was accorded a warm welcome by students, teachers and local residents. As part of the visit, he planted a sapling in the school's Prabin Bon (Senior Citizens' Forest) and interacted with students and teachers about academic activities. Encouraging students to pursue excellence in education, he also appealed to local residents to work collectively towards keeping villages free from the menace of drug abuse.
Interacting with local farmers, Governor Nallu sought detailed information on crop cultivation and agricultural practices in the region. He later visited Agrotech Modern Rice Mill at Sripur Gram Panchayat, where he was briefed on the process of rice production from paddy as well as the local demand for rice.
The Governor also visited an oil palm plantation owned by farmer Arup Das at Sripur, where officials from the Agriculture Department were present. Expressing optimism about the sector's future, he said Tripura has the potential to emerge as an important producer of oil palm in the country with sustained efforts and farmer participation.
As part of his rural development tour, the Governor also inspected a piggery unit, highlighting the importance of diversified livelihood activities in strengthening the rural economy.
The visit was attended by MLAs Jahar Chakraborty and Yadav Lal Nath, North Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath, Yubarajnagar Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Aparna Singha Debnath, North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, senior government officials and Agriculture Department representatives.
