Agartala, Apr 16 (FD) Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu conducted a comprehensive inspection of key urban infrastructure projects in Agartala on Thursday, focusing on sanitation, waste management, and safe drinking water systems aimed at improving public health and environmental sustainability.
The Governor visited the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located on Akhaura Road, along with another STP and a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Chandranimura. He also inspected the 80 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Ushabazar, developed under the AMRUT Mission.
During his interaction with the media, the Governor emphasized that Agartala is a prestigious and rapidly developing city. He highlighted the importance of ensuring a clean environment and access to safe drinking water for all residents. He also stressed the need to increase the depth of city ponds to enhance water conservation and urban resilience.
At Fire Brigade Chowmuhani, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Wahid welcomed the Governor and briefed him on the stormwater drainage system connected to the Akhaura canal. The Governor later reviewed the sewage pumping station and was apprised of operational details of the sanitation projects.
At Chandranimura, officials explained the waste segregation process at the MRF, including the sorting of biodegradable waste, plastics, polythene, and glass bottles for recycling. The Governor appreciated the initiatives taken toward sustainable waste management.
The visit concluded at the Ushabazar water treatment plant, managed by the Tripura Jal Board, which supplies water to Wards 12 and 3 of Agartala Municipal Corporation, benefiting nearly 3,947 households. CEO Mihir Kanti Gop provided detailed insights into the project. A felicitation ceremony was also organised to honor sanitation workers for their contribution to maintaining cleanliness.
