Agartala, May 21 (FD) A strong focus on improving tea quality, branding, and innovation marked the International Tea Day celebration held at Lembuchhara Agricultural College in Tripura on Wednesday. The programme was inaugurated by Indrasena Reddy Nallu, who praised the state’s remarkable progress in tea production and quality standards.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said Tripura has secured a significant position in the tea sector through its growing production and improving quality. He stressed the need to promote Tripura tea as a clean, green, and pure product in national and international markets. According to him, branding will play a crucial role in increasing the recognition and market value of tea produced in the state.
The Governor also described small tea growers as the backbone of Tripura’s tea industry. He highlighted several welfare and development schemes launched by both the Central and State governments for the upliftment of tea garden workers and small tea cultivators.
Emphasising research and technological advancement, the Governor suggested the establishment of a Tea Incubation Lab by the Tea Board India and Lembuchhara Agricultural College. He said such a facility would help improve tea quality, processing methods, research activities, and innovation in the tea sector across the state.
Among others present at the event was Samir Ranjan Ghosh, Chairman of the Tripura Tea Development Corporation, who spoke about various welfare initiatives undertaken by the state government for tea workers.
The programme also featured speeches by Dr. Debashis Sen and Arunita Phukan Yadav, who delivered the welcome address. The vote of thanks was delivered by Rajesh Kumar Das.
Tea workers, students, and officials attended the celebration in large numbers, reflecting the importance of the tea industry in Tripura’s rural economy and agricultural development. FD SB
