Gomati marks World Malaria Day with screening, rallies, awareness drives

Agartala, Apr 25 (FD) World Malaria Day was observed across Gomati district with a series of coordinated health initiatives, including mass screening, awareness rallies, and preventive measures to curb vector-borne diseases.
District Vector-Borne Disease Control Officer Dr Soumik Chakraborty said a special programme was conducted at Udaipur Railway Station under the initiative of Garji Ayushman Arogya Mandir. Health officials screened passengers and distributed informational leaflets to raise awareness.
In malaria-prone Ampi region, students and teachers of Ampinagar HS School organised a large rally, followed by discussions and quiz competitions aimed at engaging youth. Field operations were intensified in Amarpur block, focusing on eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Health teams visited several areas and carried out spraying drives in vulnerable localities.
Awareness activities also included sit-and-draw competitions for students in Chellagang and Karbook. According to official data, around 320 malaria tests were conducted across the district on the day.
Alongside the campaign, Poshan Pakhwada was observed at Janaki Sundari Anganwadi Centre, highlighting maternal and child nutrition. District Chief Medical Officer Dr Kamal Reang reiterated that efforts are ongoing in villages to eliminate malaria and build a healthier, disease-free society. FD SB
