Geriatric Dept. closed in G.B Hospital, 29 persons lose jobs

Agartala, July 26 (FD) In an instance of uncertainty in job, as many as 29 contractual workers of the Department of Geriatric Medicine in GB Pant Hospital was shut down, which was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb four years ago.

The department, which was running with the funding from the central government suddenly decided to stop funding, which came as a bolt from blue. It was inaugurated in March, 2020.

In this Department treatment was offered to the above 60 years and had staffs like doctors, nurses, lab technicians, physiotherapy staff, and GD staff. All the employees were engaged on contract basis since 2020.
Losing their jobs was so easy that only a paper was handed over to them saying that the agreement with the central government had ended.
The persons, who lost their jobs tried to meet Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and the Health Secretary, Kiran Gitte, but could not reach out. FD JK
