Agartala, Apr 18 (FD) A remarkable life-saving surgery at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital has highlighted the rapid advancement of neurosurgical care in Tripura, credited largely to the initiatives of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. A seven-year-old boy from Gomati district survived a critical head injury after a complex five-hour operation successfully removed a six-inch iron rod lodged in his skull.
The child, identified as Roni Jamatia of Amarpur’s Gamaku Para, met with a severe accident on April 8 while playing near his home, when he fell into a newly constructed six-foot-deep latrine pit. An exposed iron rod pierced his head. He was first taken to Amarpur Sub-Divisional Hospital and later referred to TMC and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, where a CT scan confirmed the severity of the injury.
He was then shifted to GBP Hospital’s trauma care centre and admitted around 1:49 am. Under the supervision of neurosurgeon Dr. A.S. Reddy and a team of specialists, the child underwent surgery on April 14. The operation was successful, and the boy is now recovering under medical supervision.
The treatment was provided free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The family expressed gratitude to the doctors and healthcare staff for their timely intervention. FD SB
