Frequent power outages disrupt dialysis services at Dharmanagar Hospital, patients suffer

Dharmanagar, July 21 (FD) Frequent power outages and disruptions in dialysis services at Dharmanagar District Hospital have left hundreds of kidney patients facing severe hardship, with growing public concern over the quality of services provided by the outsourced operator.

The hospital's dialysis unit, which has been operated by a private agency for the past several years, has come under criticism from patients and their families, who allege that treatment is often interrupted due to erratic electricity supply.

Residents said power cuts have remained a persistent problem across Dharmanagar subdivision for years, and even the district hospital has not been exempt. They alleged that dialysis procedures are occasionally halted midway when electricity fails, causing immense distress to critically ill patients.

"Round-the-clock power supply is essential for a hospital, especially for life-saving services like dialysis. Interruptions during treatment put patients through unimaginable suffering," a local resident said.

According to sources, several representations have been submitted to the district health authorities and the private agency operating the dialysis unit, seeking corrective measures. However, they claim no effective action has been taken.

Amid mounting frustration, a section of patients and local residents is reportedly planning an agitation demanding the immediate installation of a dedicated power backup system, including a generator, to ensure uninterrupted dialysis services.

There was no official response from the district health administration or the service provider at the time of filing this report. FD JK
