Agartala, May 25 (FD) In a significant development, four police personnel posted in Tripura’s Khowai district have been arrested and placed under suspension following allegations of serious procedural lapses and malpractice in connection with a narcotics-related case registered at Teliamura Police Station.
According to official sources, Bogati Jagadeeswar Reddy, Superintendent of Police (SP), Khowai district, ordered a discreet inquiry on May 22 after receiving information regarding alleged irregularities linked to Teliamura PS Case No. 2026/TLM/023, registered under Sections 21(C), 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
During the preliminary inquiry, investigators reportedly detected major discrepancies in the handling and management of seized narcotics-related materials. Sources revealed that more than 200 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup, allegedly connected to the case, were found missing and unaccounted for.
Taking serious note of the findings, police authorities subsequently registered a separate case at Teliamura Police Station under relevant legal provisions. The investigation has now been transferred to the Tripura Police Crime Branch for a detailed and impartial probe.
Officials confirmed that all four police personnel suspected of involvement in the matter have been arrested. Simultaneously, departmental suspension orders have also been issued against them pending the outcome of the investigation.
Police authorities stated that both departmental proceedings and legal action have already been initiated against the accused personnel. Senior officials assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty of misconduct or tampering with evidence in narcotics-related cases.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding evidence management and procedural compliance in sensitive NDPS investigations, particularly involving seized contraband and narcotics-related materials. Authorities indicated that further details are expected to emerge as the Crime Branch investigation progresses. FD JK
