Four of India’s top female athletes are among 24 finalists from a total of 13 countries who are now one bout from glory after booking their places in the gold-medal clashes at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi this weekend.
Nitu and Saweety overcame two top seeds in yesterday’s semi-finals - Kazakh minimum weight Alua Balkibekova and light heavyweight Emma-Sue Greentree, respectively - while light flyweight Nikhat Zareen beat Colombia’s Ingrit Valencia, and middleweight Lovlina Borgohain won against Li Qian of China.
Nitu will face Mongolia’s Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan in the minimum weight final on Saturday, with Saweety taking on light heavyweight rival Lina Wang of China in the final bout of the day.
