Former Tripura Governor, Dr. D.Y. Patil passes away at 90

Agartala, Aug 4 (FD) Former Tripura Governor, eminent educationist, philanthropist and Padma Shri awardee Dr. D.Y. Patil passed away at his residence in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on Tuesday morning. He was 90.
Dr. Patil served as the Governor of Tripura from 2009 to 2013, discharging his constitutional responsibilities with dignity, integrity and dedication. During his distinguished public career, he also served as the Governor of Bihar and West Bengal, earning widespread respect for his administrative acumen and commitment to public service.
A pioneering figure in the field of education, Dr. Patil founded the D.Y. Patil Education Group, which has grown into one of India's premier educational institutions with significant contributions to higher education, healthcare and research. In recognition of his exceptional service to education and society, he was conferred the Padma Shri in 1991.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed profound grief over the veteran leader's demise. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister described Dr. Patil as an eminent educationist, visionary institution builder, and philanthropist and respected public figure whose immense contributions to education, healthcare and public service have left an enduring legacy.
"Dr. D.Y. Patil's lifelong dedication to nation-building through education and public service will continue to inspire generations. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti," the Chief Minister said. FD JK
