Former Congress leader arrested for alleged links to banned militant outfit NLFT

Agartala, Oct 20 (FD) The police in Killa have arrested 38-year-old Pabitra Jamatia, a former Congress leader, which is located in the Udaipur subdivision of the Gomati District, Tripura, on suspicion of having ties to the National Liberation Front of Tripura, a banned militant organization.
According to a senior official in the Tripura Police department, Jamatia has been actively promoting the sectarian ideology of the insurgent group in remote areas of the state.
He has allegedly been involved in indoctrinating youth to join the armed rebellion alongside NLFT militants, and recent reports indicate that four youths from Gandacherra were influenced to join the militant organization, although three of them later escaped from the NLFT's training camps due to the dire conditions.
Jamatia, an active Congress worker, was associated with various political parties over time. He now faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 and several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 120(B), 121, 121(A), 123, 364, and 307. Gomati District Congress President Titan Paul denied his current association with the Congress party. FD SB JK
