Food poisoning outbreak hospitalizes 21 BSF personnel in Kailasahar

Agartala, June 01 (FD) In an unfortunate incident, at least 21 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were hospitalised due to food poisoning at Kailasahar in the Unakoti district of Tripura. The affected troopers, belonging to Battalion No. 199 at Latiapura border outpost, fell ill after consuming food on Wednesday. Several others exhibited mild symptoms and were provided with oral treatment while remaining at the border outpost.
According to Kailasahar SDPO Shibu Chandra Dey, nearly 30 BSF troopers suffered from food poisoning, with 21 requiring hospitalisation, while the rest are being monitored at the border outpost. The personnel experienced symptoms such as fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and loose motion shortly after consuming their meals. However, their conditions have stabilised, providing some relief amid the incident.
Kunal Minj, one of the affected personnel, described the symptoms as fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, and loose motion, which appeared after consuming the food provided. However, their conditions have since stabilised.
A team of district health officials has taken samples of the food and water served to the troopers at the border outpost for investigation. The affected personnel were admitted to both RGM Hospital and the district hospital, with Dr. Sankha Subha Debnath stating that their conditions were not critical but required close observation until they fully recovered.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and quality control in such establishments, ensuring the well-being of the personnel serving at the borders. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to prevent any future occurrences and safeguard the health of the BSF personnel stationed in the area. FD SB
