Agartala, Sept 23 (FD) A five-day training workshop aimed at strengthening the professional skills of school teachers and improving the quality of classroom instruction began on Tuesday at the Indoor Hall of the Hapania International Fairgrounds.
The workshop has been organised under the National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA), an initiative of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), with support from the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
NCERT Director Professor Dinesh Prasad Saklani formally inaugurated the programme. School Education Department Secretary Dr Milind Ramteke was also present and addressed the gathering.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Saklani said the National Education Policy (NEP) had brought a new perspective to the country’s education system, with teachers playing a crucial role in its effective implementation.
He said students, particularly those living in remote areas, often develop knowledge and understanding through their interaction with nature and their surroundings. Teachers, therefore, need to recognise and nurture students’ natural creativity and learning abilities, he said.
Saklani also stressed the importance of regular review and feedback to improve the implementation of educational programmes. Feedback from teachers participating in the workshop, he said, would help strengthen and further develop the programme.
Dr Ramteke said the training programme places particular emphasis on primary and school education. He noted that Tripura currently ranks third among states in terms of literacy and expressed hope that the workshop would contribute to further strengthening the professional capabilities of teachers in the state.
SCERT Director L. Darlong delivered the welcome address, while Professor Ranjana Arora, Head of the Department of Curriculum and Studies & Development (DCS&D) at NCERT, spoke about the objectives and scope of the NISHTHA programme.
Professor Sarad Sinha, Head of the Department of Teacher Education (DTE) at NCERT, attended the programme as a distinguished guest.
A short documentary highlighting dedication to the teaching profession was also screened during the inaugural programme. FD JK
