First phase of elections in Tripura passes off peacefully

Agartala, Apr 19 (FD) Elections for the West Tripura parliamentary constituency and bi-elections to the 7-Ramnagar constituency passed off peacefully with high voter’s turnout.
Returning officer of the constituency, Dr Vishal Kumar said that 79.7% turnout was recorded till 5 PM in the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency and 67.81% turnout was recorded for the 7-Ramnagar constituency.
He said that many voters are still standing in queue, which could continue for long time as usually voters turnout is usually high in Tripura.
Meanwhile, RO has received complaints of “large scale rigging” from quite a lot of places in the constituency from opposition Congress and CPI-M, who unitedly fighting against BJP candidates this time.
“I have received complaints of large scale rigging from a delegation of the opposition parties. All the complaints will be duly examined and actions can be taken only after examinations are complete”, he told reporters.
Asish Saha, INDIA bloc candidate for Tripura West Lok Sabha constituency alleged that the activists of the ruling BJP started intimidating the voters two days ahead of the voting and they stopped the voters from going to the booths.
However, BJP rubbished the allegations as baseless and not based on truths.
“The opposition INDI bloc is sensing humiliating defeat in the elections, which prompted them to create an excuse of defeat. Our party is a disciplined party, which does not indulge into any kind of violence and injustice”, State spokesperson of BJP, Subrata Chakrborty told reporters.
In West Tripura constituency, former Chief Minister and Rajyasabha MP, Biplab Kumar Deb is fighting the elections as BJP candidate against INDIA Bloc candidate, Asish Kumar Saha.
Altogether 14.61 lakh people are eligible to vote in the constituency.
In 7-Ramnagar constituency, where 54,669 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise, the BJP has pitted the Mayor of Agartala, Dipak Majumder against CPI(M)'s Ratan Das, a former MLA. FD JK
