Farmers’ income almost doubled in Tripura in past few years: CM

Agartala, Nov 1 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday claimed that the average monthly income of the farmers has almost doubled over the past few years.
Addressing a programme at Kumarghat in Unakoti district, he said, the farmer’s income has increased from Rs 6,580 to Rs 11,096 in the last few years.
Dr. Saha also said, agriculture is the base for economic growth in the state and keeping this view in mind, the state government is working to improve the socio-economic status of the farmers.
The state government has taken several initiatives for the welfare of farmers, including doubling their income, he said after inaugurating a 1000-MT rice go-down at Kumarghat.
The go-down constructed at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore would benefit the farmers of two villages under Kumarghat sub-division, the chief minister said.
During his speech, Dr. Saha also highlighted various development initiatives taken by the state government for the welfare of the people of the state.
Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, SC Welfare Minister Bhagaban Das, Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department Apurba Roy and others attended the programme.
