Agartala, Oct 25 (FD) Opening of a fake facebook account in the name of the former Chief Minister of Tripura and politburo member, Manik Sarkar and some remarks by the Founder and Supremo of the Tipramotha party, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on the fake facebook has stoked a controversy in the state.
A posting from the fake account was “Pradyot Bikram Manikya DebBarma I challenge u give ur candidate in sabroom and Jitendra Chaudhury will win the seat by 5k margin. it's not 2023😉 2028 will be different”.
Pradyot wrote in reply from his official facebook, “First try to win Dhanpur ! Before challenging me”.
Dhanpur is the previous constituency of Manik Sarkar, from where he won elections four times, but did not contest in 2023 assembly elections.
Another post from the fake account was, “Pradyot Bikram Manikya DebBarma I challenge u give ur candidate in Sabroom and Jitendra Chaudhury will win the seat by 5k margin. It’s not 2023😉 2028 will be different”.
State Secretary of the opposition Tripura, Jitendra Chowdhury today held a press conference over the issue at the CPI-M office here and said, “It has come to our notice a few days ago and we have already lodged a complaint with the cyber cell of Tripura police”.
He further stated that the party members, who handle social media also tried to bring the matter to the notice of the facebook authority, but could not reach.
“I do not know why Pradyot babu is so angry and posting his comments even after knowing the fact that this is a fake account. We will lodge another complaint with police if necessary”, he said.
However, the controversy buried, when the Tipra Motha chief in a facebook post said, “Thank you for your clarification! Complaint must be filed with the Tripura police IT cell on who is falsely using the former cm name. Tomorrow this Fb handle may falsely say or spread rumors which may affect many more especially with certain interest trying to flare up communal tension”. FD JK
