Agartala, Mar 26 (FD) The state government has taken extensive steps to improve the quality of education, with significant teacher recruitment and strategic initiatives. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared these details in response to a question from MLA Shyamal Chakraborty during a state assembly session.
Teacher Recruitment and Improved Education Quality
Over the past five financial years, 4,656 teachers have been recruited under the Right to Elementary Education. Among them, 3,615 are graduate teachers, while 1,041 are non-graduate teachers. The Chief Minister stated that these recruitments, conducted through the Teacher Recruitment Board Tripura (TRBT) following the TET examination, have significantly enhanced education quality.
Nipun Tripura Mission and Teacher Training Initiatives
Launched on November 18, 2022, the Nipun Tripura Mission has played a crucial role in strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy. A total of 10,182 primary teachers have been trained in activity-based learning methods, while 2,648 teachers have received early childhood education training. Additionally, 200 Block and Cluster Resource Persons have been trained as Master Trainers to ensure the mission’s effective implementation. Schools have also been equipped with play materials for pre-primary students.
Student Welfare Programs and Midday Meal Schemes
To promote teacher-parent collaboration, periodic parent-teacher meetings are conducted. Under the PM-POSHAN scheme, students from grades one to eight in government and government-aided schools receive cooked meals daily. In tea garden regions of West Tripura and Unakoti districts, 2,998 students in 24 schools benefit from a milk distribution program. A pilot breakfast scheme has also been introduced in Dhalai district, covering 47,792 students.
Educational Exhibitions and Innovative Teaching Methods
The state recently organized an interstate teaching-learning materials exhibition and competition to encourage teachers to develop low-cost, self-made educational tools. Over 160 materials, selected from district-level competitions, were displayed, attracting nearly 7,000 participating teachers.
Infrastructure Development for Schools
In response to MLA Manab Debbarma’s query, the Chief Minister revealed that ₹5.36 crore has been proposed for constructing new classrooms at Srinagar Gabdi Higher Secondary Vidyajyoti School. Once approved, construction will begin. Additionally, plans are underway for a new building at Chailengta Higher Secondary School, with fund approval expected in the next financial year.
Vidya Setu Module for First-Grade Students
A nine-week bridge course, the Vidya Setu Module, aligned with NCERT guidelines, has been introduced to help first-grade students achieve the required academic level. An NCERT delegation recently evaluated its implementation and praised the efforts made under the Nipun Mission.
