Eminent musician Thanga Darlong is sick

Agartala, Nov 14 (FD) The eminent folk singer and musician from Tripura, Padma Shri Thanga Darlong, aged 103, is facing health challenges, being bedridden and unable to eat or speak.
Thanga Darlong, a cultural icon renowned for his expertise in playing the rosem, a bamboo flute-like instrument, received the Padma Shri in 2019. Despite challenges, he has played a vital role in preserving Tripura's indigenous musical heritage.
Former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, alarmed by Darlong's condition, directed the Director of Health Services, Dr. Supriya Mallik, to send a medical team for examination and treatment.
Chief Medical Officer of Unakoti district, Dr. Shankha Subhra Debnath, conducted a preliminary check-up, ensuring a blood sample collection for further tests. While Darlong's blood sugar level was normal, his health is monitored around the clock, and he receives necessary care.
Minister Tinku Roy visited and extended support, emphasizing the state's commitment to the recovery of this cultural icon. Specialized medical attention is underway, demonstrating the government's dedication to preserving and honoring Tripura's rich cultural legacy. FD SB JK
