Agartala, Apr 13 (FD) The Election Commission of India has warned Kriti Singh Debbaman, the BJP candidate for the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat for her comment that the CPI-M is a “party of murderers”.
The Returning Officer of the constituency, Saju Vaheed, in a memorandum to Debbarma on Friday, stated that she is "hereby warned to abstain from making such statement in future which violates the Model Code of Conduct, otherwise appropriate action will be taken as per the provision under Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission of India"
In an election meeting at Fatikroy in North Tripura district, which falls in the constituency, she made this remark on Monday last.
Reacting to her comment, CPI-M state Secretary, Jitendra Chowdhury on Tuesday last lodged a
complaint to the ECI along with the paper cutting of Kriti Devi Debbarman's speech.
Chaudhary mentioned that her comment was baseless against a nationally recognized party like CPI-M which is against the standard election rules.
Sources said the commission investigated the matter and then the Returning Officer of the constituency cautioned her.
