Eight Para-Athletes from Sikkim performed remarkably in 1st North East Para Sports Meet at Guwahati

The 1st North East Para Sports Meet, held from 27th to 29th November 2024 at Guwahati, witnessed a remarkable performance by the contingent from Sikkim. Eight para-athletes represented Sikkim in four disciplines: Swimming, Athletics, Badminton, and Table Tennis.
The event, hosted by the Paralympic Committee of India in association with the Paralympic Association of Assam, saw over 500 athletes from eight North Eastern states. Sikkim’s para-athletes brought home four medals in their first-ever participation in para-sports.
Phuntsok Tashi Bhutia won a Gold medal in Table Tennis, while Sher Bahadur Mangar and Dik Bahadur Basnett secured one Bronze medal each in Shot Put. Nima Dorjee Tamang earned a Bronze in the 100-meter freestyle swimming event. The medals won by Sikkim’s para-athletes at the event have brought significant recognition to the state.
