Eight Bangladeshi nationals detained at Agartala Airport

Agartala, June 28 (FD) Eight Bangladeshi nationals were detained by the Airport Police Station here over the past 24 hours for allegedly entering Tripura illegally and attempting to travel outside the state, police officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs indicating that four Bangladeshi nationals would arrive at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport and attempt to board a flight to a destination outside Tripura. Acting on the tip-off, a surveillance team was deployed at the airport on Saturday, leading to the detention of four suspects.

During sustained interrogation, investigators obtained information that led to the detention of four more Bangladeshi nationals from the airport vicinity.

Police said all eight detainees are adult males and were allegedly planning to leave the state after entering Tripura through illegal means. While the four individuals detained earlier remain in police custody, the remaining four were produced before a local court, with investigators seeking their custodial remand for further questioning.

The investigation is focused on determining how the men illegally crossed into Tripura, their intended destination, and whether they were being assisted by an organised human trafficking or illegal immigration network. Police are also trying to identify local facilitators and others who may have been involved in arranging their movement. FD JK
