ECI orders an inquiry into the violence at Majlishpur

Agartala, Jan 20 (FD): The Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered an inquiry into the incidents of attacks at a bike rally of opposition Congress in which at least ten persons including AICC general secretary Ajay Kumar, were injured, official sources said today. However, the Congress alleged that 15 activists and leaders of their party were injured when the ruling BJP sheltered goons had attacked the rally hours after the elections for the state assembly was announced on Wednesday last. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarrao said the ECI ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked to obtain a report from DGP of the state through the chief secretary and submit the same by 3 pm on Friday.

The CEO said police registered three complaints and eight persons were arrested in this connection.The State election will be held on February 16 and the counting of votes will take place on March 2. FD JK
