Durga Puja 2025: Final Preparations Begin Across Idol-making Hubs in Bengal
By Firstdespatch Desk Sep 23, 2025
Agartala, Sept 23 (FD) With only four days left for Durga Puja, preparations across idol-making hubs and puja clubs have reached their peak. Everywhere there is a festive atmosphere some idols are being crafted inside pandals, while others are being brought in from outside. However, the uncertain weather forecast has raised concerns. Many clubs are taking precautions by placing idols inside pandals early to avoid disruptions due to possible rain.
According to tradition, Goddess Durga’s arrival and departure are associated with different vehicles (vahans), each carrying symbolic meanings. This year, the goddess will arrive on an elephant (gaja), signifying prosperity and a bountiful harvest for the earth. However, her departure will be on a swing (dola), which astrologers believe may bring warnings of disease or epidemics.
The festive calendar has also been finalized. Maha Shashthi falls on September 28 (Sunday), with rituals performed until 10:43 AM. On this day, Durga’s Shashthi Puja will be held. Maha Saptami is on September 29 (Monday), lasting until 12:28 PM, marking the Navapatrika bath, installation, and Saptami Puja. Maha Ashtami will be observed on September 30 (Tuesday) until 1:45 PM. Maha Navami falls on October 1 (Wednesday), with the tithi lasting until 2:36 PM. Finally, Vijaya Dashami will be celebrated on October 2 (Thursday), with the tithi lasting until 2:56 PM.
As pandals get their finishing touches and idols take their rightful place, devotees eagerly await the arrival of Goddess Durga, bringing joy, devotion, and cultural vibrancy to Bengal’s biggest festival. FD SB
