Drugs worth Rs. 24 crores recovered in Tripura

Agartala, Feb 28 (FD) Security forces have seized drugs worth ₹24 crores in two separate incidents in Tripura, official sources said on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted a truck carrying cement bags at Teliamura in Khowai district yesterday and recovered 90,000 Yaba tablets (methamphetamine) worth ₹9 crores. The truck, bound for Agartala, was coming from Shillong.
The security forces managed to arrest one person in connection with the case.
In another raid on Wednesday, the Assam Rifles and Customs officials recovered 1,50,000 Yaba tablets from two unclaimed bags on the Shatabdi Express in Dhalai district. Officials stated that the Yaba tablets were worth ₹15 crores.
According to sources in the Assam Rifles, they have conducted 21 raids in the state since January last year and recovered contraband items worth ₹95 crores.
The drugs were being smuggled from Manipur.
Police reported that drugs enter Tripura from Myanmar through Manipur and Mizoram, and a significant number of students in Tripura have become addicted to drugs. FD JK
