Agartala, Feb 20 (FD) Even as the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh continues to deteriorate after Md. Yunus takes over the charge as Chief Advisor of the country, the economic relations between the two countries seems have not stopped.
In the bilateral relations, connecting Sonamura and Daudkandi in Bangladesh’s Comilla district was a scheduled project for running Bajras or the barges through Gomati River for bringing and sending goods.
The ruling BJP MLA of Udaipur Abhishek Deb Roy said dredging in 54 km areas from Maharani at Udaipur to Sonamura in Sepahijala district has started.
The project would cost Rs.19.50 crore and the works would be completed by one year.
The Sonamura – Daudkandi route was declared as a port of call in 2020 and a trial run for running of Bajras or the barges had started earlier.
Even as the barge could manage to come, It was identified that there was necessity of dredging in the river and some of the small bridges in Bangladesh side should be altered.
If it becomes operational, goods can go and come to Kolkata to Vishakhapatnam through Bangladesh and the neighbouring country will also earn a good amount of revenue. FD JK
