Agartala, Nov 09 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday inaugurated a two-day long conference on Industrial Disaster Risk Management at Pragna Bhavan here.
‘Focus on identifying system and seismic risks, pipeline security and resilience of critical infrastructure, is the theme of the conference.
The Conference was organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with revenue department, government of Tripura.
Addressing the conference Dr Saha said that the prevention is better than cure as well as cheaper too.
He said, “It is the sum total of efforts and activities, steps and measures that specify preparedness and mitigation that can be taken up before, during and after a disaster with the purpose of avoiding and minimizing the resultant consequences.”
In a social media post the Chief Minister mentioned, “Our state is also vulnerable to any natural disaster including earthquakes. For this reason, we got the benefit of regular pre-exercise and awareness programs from the administration, with less damage than expected in the cyclone a few days ago.”
Dr Saha expressed hope for all-round success of the two-day conference.
The speakers highlighted industrial disaster as a major concern for everyone.
For industrial safety four pillars are very important; legal framework, protocols, resources and most importantly participation of people, a speaker said.
The Conference was moderated by, Akhil Gupta, Additional Director, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Besides, N Bose Babu, Co-Chairman FICCI Committee on Disaster Management, Dr Manas Kumar Sharma, Director, Oil India Limited, Puneet Agarwal, Principal Secretary, Revenue Department, Government of Tripura, J K Sinha, Chief Secretary, Government of Tripura also remained present on the occasion.
