In chess, reigning World Champion Ding Liren defeated India’s Dommaraju Gukesh in the opening round of the 2024 World Chess Championship in Singapore today. Playing with the Black pieces, Ding capitalized on Gukesh’s risky opening, launching a powerful counterattack that gave him an early lead and eventually secured the victory.
Round 2 of the World Chess Championship will be held tomorrow, with the match starting at 2:30 PM IST. The championship consists of 14 classical games. The first player to reach 7.5 points will be crowned the winner. If the players are tied after 14 games, tiebreak matches with shorter time controls will be held to determine the winner.
