By Firstdespatch Desk Apr 28, 2026
Agartala, Apr 28 (FD) The first phase of Census 2027 will commence in Tripura on July 17 and continue till August 31, marking a major transition to a fully digital enumeration process, officials said.
Director of Census Operations Ratan Biswas informed that the exercise will be conducted in two stages. The initial phase, from July 17 to 31, will enable citizens to opt for self-enumeration. This will be followed by the second phase from August 1 to 31, during which enumerators will undertake door-to-door house listing and data collection.
The 45-day exercise will engage around 11,000 enumerators and supervisors across the state to complete the first phase efficiently.
To streamline preparations, a state-level review meeting on Census 2027 was held at Pragya Bhavan, attended by senior officials, including District Magistrates from all eight districts.
Officials stated that District Magistrates will serve as Principal Census Officers in their respective districts, with Additional District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Magistrates assisting in the implementation of the exercise.
Emphasising a key reform, Biswas said the entire Census process will be conducted in digital mode, eliminating traditional paperwork and manual signatures. Enumerators will use mobile devices to collect data, which will be uploaded directly to a central server in real time.
The shift to a digital platform is expected to significantly enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in the nationwide census exercise. FD JK
