Agartala, May 25 (FD) In a determined push to bolster law and order and intensify Tripura’s fight against drug abuse, Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag conducted a high-level review meeting in Kailashahar, the headquarters of Unakoti district. This marks DGP Anurag’s first official visit to the district since taking over the reins of the state police.
Held at the District Superintendent of Police’s office, the closed-door meeting brought together top security officials, including DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath, SPs of Unakoti and North Tripura Abinash Rai, SDPOs, and Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of various police stations. The primary agenda focused on maintaining law and order and reinforcing the government’s anti-drug campaign—an initiative that remains central to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s vision of a "Drug-Free Tripura."
In a post-meeting press briefing, DGP Anurag emphasized that fighting the drug menace is a shared responsibility. “Maintaining law and order is not solely the job of the police. We urge every citizen to join hands in building a safer and healthier Tripura,” he stated.
Anurag highlighted a notable rise in conviction rates, with over 30% of accused individuals now being convicted—an indicator of better coordination between law enforcement and the judiciary. The meeting also focused on strategies to curb drug trafficking, enhance intelligence-sharing, and deploy surveillance technologies. Plans are underway to increase patrolling in vulnerable areas and collaborate with central agencies to dismantle interstate drug networks.
The DGP’s visit comes amid rising concerns over Tripura’s role as a drug transit zone due to its proximity to international borders. His subsequent stops in Dharmanagar and Kanchanpur further reinforce the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security and motivating frontline personnel.
