DFO Yet to Be Arrested in Cash Seizure Case; Removal Likely Amid Ongoing Probe

Agartala, April 24 (FD) Gaurav Ravindra Wagh, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of South Tripura, has not yet been arrested in connection with the high-profile cash seizure case that has raised concerns across administrative circles. However, official sources indicate that he may soon be removed from his post as the investigation progresses.
The case surfaced after police detained Rajendra Chintaman Kaklij from Agartala Railway Station with ₹59.94 lakh in cash. He was subsequently produced before a court, where police sought custodial remand to probe the source and intended use of the seized amount.
Investigators are questioning several individuals linked to the incident, including those who allegedly accompanied Kaklij to the railway station in the official vehicle assigned to the DFO. A forest guard and the driver of the vehicle have been detained for interrogation as authorities attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events and examine possible misuse of official resources.
Sources suggest that the cash was allegedly packed under suspicious circumstances at the DFO’s official residence in South Tripura on Wednesday night, with a forest guard reportedly witnessing the process. This has intensified scrutiny over the origin of the funds and potential financial irregularities.
Despite these developments, Wagh has neither been questioned nor taken into custody so far. Police officials stated that further action would depend on evidence emerging from ongoing interrogations and financial analysis.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the probe is being carried out jointly by the state police and the Government Railway Police. Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as efforts continue to trace the financial trail and determine the extent of any alleged wrongdoing. FD JK
