Agartala, Oct 28 (FD) The leader of the opposition and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar said that the fall of the present BJP government is imminent in the forthcoming assembly elections slated for 2023 as law and order had collapsed and the state turned into a ‘rape city’.
“BJP party has failed in all areas. In the duration of only 55 months, the state has been brought to the brink of abyss. There is no law and order in the entire state. The police administration is not able to function independently”, he told reporters on Thursday.
Sarkar, who is also the politburo member of CPI-M, said that BJP introduced the system of bad governance under the guise of ‘Sushashon’ (Good governance) to remain in power.
”Under BJP’s misrule, the entire state has turned into a rape city’, he added and further said that the common people are ready to give a befitting reply to the ‘anti-people’ government and ensure their departure from the helm of affairs.
He also appealed to all the opposition party leaders to join the protest movements against ‘bad governance’ delivered by the present government.
With the growing protest of people about case of gang rape in Kumarghat, the situation in the state is quite tense. Considering the situations and repeated failure of the government, the former Chief Minister said, “The defeat of ruling BJP is certain in the coming 2023 election.”
On Thursday left student organization SFI-TSU (Student Federation of India- Tribal Student Union) staged a protest in front of the office of the Director General of Police demanding the arrest of the minister’s son along with other accused. The siege movement of the students was crushed by the police administration soon after it started.
The left women leaders of the All India Democratic Women’s Association then joined the protest in front of Agartala City Centre. CPIM also staged protest demonstrations in kumarghat, Kalyanpur and kailashahar.
Kailashar is also in turmoil over the recent news of alleged rape of a16-year old girl.
However, state minister for Information and Culture, Sushanta Chowdhury denied the involvement of the minister’s son in the rape case as ‘baseless and far from truth as he was not present in the place of occurrence at that time’.
“The accused son of the minister was in Guwahati on the day of the incident”, he told reporters here on Wednesday.
CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury criticized the government for its failure to keep women safe in the state. He said that the minister’s son and BJP leaders who are accused in the Kumarghat case are still roaming in the streets freely. FD DM JK
