Agartala, Apr 7 (FD) Tripura Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb strongly advocated the implementation of the ‘One Nation, One Election’ policy while addressing a one-day programme organized by the Majdur Monitoring Cell at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala. The event, attended by ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and their assistants from across the state, witnessed enthusiastic participation and political awareness.
Deb emphasized the benefits of simultaneous elections, highlighting their potential to save time, reduce expenses, and allow governments to focus on governance rather than constant electioneering. He criticized the Congress party for opposing the initiative despite once supporting it. “The Congress has forgotten its own history. They broke elected governments and fragmented the election cycle. Now they oppose the very reform they once backed,” he stated.
He also took a dig at the CPI(M), claiming the party lacks a nationally recognized leader. D
eb criticized the recent elevation of Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury to the CPI(M) Polit Bureau, saying, “Even their General Secretary is unknown nationally—I had to Google his name.”
Continuing his critique, Deb stated that the Congress is no longer a national force but a family-run entity centered around the Gandhi family. “They’ve made someone Leader of the Opposition just because he is Sonia Gandhi’s son. Leadership should be earned, not inherited,” he said.
During the event, Deb also attacked the Communist ideology and its legacy in Tripura and across India. He referenced the termination of 10,323 teachers under the Left regime, blaming Communist policies for the destruction of countless lives. “Communism has only brought deceit and destruction. The people of Tripura have suffered long enough under its rule,” he said.
The day also marked the 46th Foundation Day of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), celebrated with great enthusiasm at the state party office. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other senior leaders highlighted the transformative development brought under the BJP government since 2018.
Deb concluded by reaffirming BJP’s commitment to the vision of a unified, developed India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. FD SB
