Agartala, Nov 9 (FD) Tripura Government has imposed restrictions in the petrol pumps of the state for rationing of only petrol due to the derailment of a freight train in the Lamding-Badarpur section, a minister said on Saturday.
Sources in the North-East Frontier Railway (NF Railway) said, there was damage in the railway tracks spread over 4-5 km areas, which has impeded regular run of rails causing hindrance for carriage of essential commodities including petroleum products.
Tripura Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, there will restrictions in buying petrol as the stock is meager, but there would not be no restrictions in case of other petroleum products like diesel as the stock is satisfactory.
“I have spoken to the General Manager of NF Railway, who assured me to repair the area within three –four days and the situation would be normal by Nov 13, so restrictions would continue till Nov.13”, Chowdhury said in a face book live streaming.
IOCL authorities are currently importing petrol and diesel into the state through road tanker trucks from Assam's Gauhati, Betkuchi, Lamding and Silchar depots.
However, due to the low stock of petrol at the petrol pumps in various subdivisions of the state, including the IOCL depot at Dharmanagar, a temporary rationing system is being introduced for the sale of petrol from November 10, across the state.
All the public are requested to strictly follow this rationing system. This rationing regime will remain in force till the resumption of petroleum transport services by railways in the state.
In this case, the general public is requested not to indulge in any kind of over-purchasing due to panic in this critical situation of petrol, Chowdury said. FD JK
