CWG 2026: Indian swimmers & athletes in medal race in their respective games

In the Commonwealth Games, Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj secured his place in the men’s 100m backstroke semifinals after finishing fifth in Heat 4 with a time of 55.58 seconds.

India’s para swimmers also delivered strong performances, with RVVBK Budigina and Ali Imam advancing to the men’s 50m freestyle S13 final. Budigina finished third in Heat 1 with a timing of 26.33 seconds, while Ali Imam qualified after placing fifth in Heat 2 with a time of 28.41 seconds.

In athletics, Indian sprinter Vishal TK progressed to the men’s 400m semifinals after finishing second in Heat 6 with a time of 46.49 seconds. Rajesh Ramesh, who clocked 47.43 seconds to finish third in Heat 3, narrowly missed out on a semifinal spot.

Meanwhile, Sajan Prakash’s men’s 50m butterfly campaign came to an end after he finished eighth in his heat and 28th overall, missing qualification for the semifinals.

In weightlifting, India’s Nirupama Devi Seram was also unable to complete her second clean and jerk attempt at 123kg in the women’s 63kg final.

India currently sits eighth in the Commonwealth Games medal standings with a tally of 10 medals including two gold, five silver, and three bronze.
