CWG 2026: India’s Rishikanta Singh wins silver in men’s 60 kg weightlifting

At the ongoing Commonwealth Games, India’s Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won the silver medal in the Men’s 60kg weightlifting event in Glasgow today. Rishikanta lifted 121kg in the snatch, setting a new Commonwealth Games record before Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq Kasdan equalled the mark. However, the Indian managed 143kg in the clean and jerk, finishing with a combined total of 264kg. Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq Kasdan clinched the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 273kg, while Joshua Amunga Mboya of Kenya secured the bronze with an overall lift of 260kg. The silver medal is India’s second medal at this year’s Commonwealth Games and first in an able-bodied event. 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated weighlifter Rishikanta Singh Chanambam on winning the Silver Medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games. In a social media post, Mr Shah said that he has made the nation proud with his victory. The Minister wished him success for his future.

Èarlier, Para-powerlifter Jhandu Kumar opened India’s medal account with a bronze in the Men’s heavyweight event.
