Culling operation begins in Tripura as African swine flu virus spreads

Agartala, Nov 3 (FD) Tripura animal resource development departments has launched a culling operation of pigs from Friday following confirmation of spreading of African swine flu virus.
Deputy Director of the ARD department Pran Gopal Das said that blood samples of the affected hogs were sent to the North East Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (NERDDL) in Guwahati for testing and the laboratory’s report confirmed the samples as positive on October 28.
He said the department issued an official notification to initiate the culling of infected pigs on November 1 last and culling began in three villages including Batapura village in East Ramchandra Ghat, Jamirapara in west Sonatala village and Nandipara village in Uttar Ramchandra Ghat in presence of officers and specialists of animal resource development, police and local representatives of people today. All the villages are in Khowai district of the state.
The official said, 14 pigs were culled today to stop spreading of the disease in other parts of the state and initiative was also taken to sanitize all the adjoining piggery farms as precautionary measures. FD JK
