Agartala, Jan 17 (FD) The Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura, Amitabh Ranjan, stated on Friday that the state had witnessed a significant decline in crime, marking a record low in the last ten years. He added that the state government has undertaken initiatives to modernize the police force to ensure peaceful living conditions for the people.
He made these remarks while inaugurating a cricket match as part of the Police Week 2025 celebrations.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, speaking on Thursday, highlighted that overall crime rates had decreased by 19% in the last five years. He noted that the state overcame a 30-year-long insurgency problem last year, following the surrender of 1,176 insurgents belonging to two banned outfits — the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).
Dr. Saha emphasized that the state government has taken significant steps to integrate new technologies, including AI-based control rooms, drone technology, smart CCTVs, and various other advanced systems at both state and district levels.
He stated that maintaining law and order remains a top priority for the government, which is also committed to making Tripura a drug-free state.
"A total of 2,697 individuals have been arrested in connection with 1,665 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the past three years. We aim to intensify police action against drug peddlers," he said.
Dr. Saha, who also serves as the state’s Home Minister, announced plans to establish a new police headquarters. Additionally, the East Agartala and West Agartala police stations in the capital will soon be modernized. FD JK
