CPI(M) to hold statewide rallies in Tripura on July 20 in support of Parliament march

Agartala, July 19 (FD) The opposition CPI(M) in Tripura will organise rallies across the state tomorrow in support of the Cockroadh Janata Party (CJP)'s proposed Parliament March, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said on Sunday.
Chaudhury said the rallies would be held to express solidarity with the march and to mobilise public opinion against what he described as the Narendra Modi government's “misgovernance".
The announcement comes amid controversy over the detention of activist Sonam Wangchuk. Delhi Police shifted Wangchuk to a hospital on the 21st day of his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. He had been fasting while demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak. The Parliament March is scheduled to take place on July 20, coinciding with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
According to Delhi Police, Wangchuk was admitted to the hospital on medical advice and in compliance with directions of the Delhi High Court. However, the move drew criticism from opposition parties, which alleged that the Centre was attempting to suppress dissent.
"We express concern over the way Sonam Wangchuk was forcefully picked up by police personnel and admitted to a Delhi hospital. It is a serious matter, and we condemn it" Chaudhury said.
He said the CPI(M)'s statewide rallies are aimed at strengthening public participation in the Parliament March and amplifying what he termed the people's voice against the Centre.
"We also urge upon to all political parties and the people to join the movement to strengthen the people's voice against the Modi government," Chaudhury added. FD JK
