Agartala, Sep 20 (FD) A divisional committee office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in West Tripura’s Pratapgarh area was partially demolished under mysterious circumstances triggering sharp political reactions.
According to reports, unidentified miscreants arrived at the CPI (M) office at around 1:30 a.m. on Friday with a bulldozer and damaged the front gate, doors, and furniture.
The incident has been described by CPI (M) leaders as a “cowardly attack carried out under the cover of darkness.”
Leader of Opposition and CPI (M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury visited the site on Saturday and held the ruling BJP responsible. “This is the beginning of the end for the BJP,” Chaudhury alleged, claiming that the vandalism was executed under the patronage of those in power. “If it were legal, it would not have been done secretly at night,” he said.
Chaudhury further accused the BJP and RSS of showing “disrespect for democratic values” and claimed the ruling party was “looting public funds while destroying the democratic atmosphere of the state.” He added that despite video evidence of the incident, the police had yet to take action.
CPI (M) District Secretary Ratan Das said this was the seventh attack on the party office since the BJP assumed power in Tripura. “This was a well designed attack, yet no arrests have been made. Police are inactive,” he alleged.
However, BJP spokesperson, Sunit Sarkar said, they are not BJP workers as BJP does not believe in political violence. “It is possible that some miscreants might have done the mischieves”, he said.
However, Subrata Debnath, officer-in-charge of East Agartala police station said, the JCB used in the attack has been seized and an investigation is on”. FD JK
