Agartala, Jan 11 (FD) The opposition CPI-M in Tripura today said the party was mulling to stitch an alliance with all the secular and democratic forces in the state including Congress, Tipra Motha and other left parties to defeat the ruling BJP in the ensuing state elections slated for next month.
Addressing a press conference at the state party office, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri said the decision to forge alliance with all the secular and democratic forces including Congress, Tipra Motha and other left forces was taken in the state Committee yesterday.
“Our principal objective is the broadest possible mobilization of secular forces to defeat the BJP. This time election is crucial in the state for the sake of democracy as law and order has completely collapsed in the state and people’s voice is choked. It is also necessary to defeat BJP in the larger context of national politics”, he said.
Yechuri alleged that the poll pledges made by BJP before the last assembly elections were not fulfilled, there is no job, people’s livelihood is at stake, and there has been polarization of communal forces.
He said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has recently announced here that Ram mandir would be complete by January next year, but CPI-M wants to maintain communal harmony between all communities including the tribals and non-tribals.
When asked that the Tipra Motha has raised the demand for a separate state by carving out the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), he said “Broadly we have made the strategy or the alliance on principle. Everything would be done within the framework of the constitution of the country”.
The state Committee was held in presence of the three politburo members, Yechuri, Prakash Karat and former Chief Minister of the state Manik Sarkar.
Secretary of the state unit of CPI-M, Jitendra Chowdhury said, broad principles of alliance in the elections were formulated and now the state committee would finalise how to complete it.
Expressing deep concern at RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent comment that Hindu society has been at war for over 1000 years and this war is not against an enemy without, but against an enemy within. So there is a war to defend Hindu society, Hindu Dharma and Hindu culture, Yechuri said it is a dangerous comment, which will have a dangerous impact on Indian society. FD JK
