Agartala, April 12 (FD) The opposition CPI-M in Tripura on Saturday threatened to file a defamation case against the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for his alleged remark that during the regime of the Left Front CPI-M had stolen gold stocks from Matabari at Udaipur in Gomati district.
A press statement issued by the party said a news item published in a local newspaper yesterday came to their notice which said that Deb while delivering speech at a religious event at Gandhigram stated that CPI-M had stolen gold from Matabari during the regime of the Left Front.
The statement said that after becoming the Chief Minister of the state in 2018, Deb formed a trust of Matabari and he himself became the Chairman of the trust. Deb had lasted as Chief Minister for four years, but no FIR was filed. And now after seven years he is claiming that CPI-M had had stolen the gold stocks, which is a blatant lie.
“Biplab Deb must prove the veracity of his statement or tender an apology for his comments within the next week, otherwise legal actions would be initiated against him”, the statement said. FD JK
