CPI-M stages noisy walkout in Tripura assembly

Agartala, Mar 25 (FD) The opposition CPI-M on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Tripura assembly in protest against alleged ‘racially motivated’ remarks by the state parliamentary affairs minister Ratan Lal Nath towards the leader of the opposition, Jiten Chowdhury.
Nath, while contradicting the contents of a speech by Chowdhury yesterday, he said, “You have exposed your racial identity and I will confine you in your party office at Melarmath”.
The MLA of CPI-M, Shyamal Chakraborty today raised the issue demanding apology from the speaker or action against him.
However, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen remained silent and the members of the CPI-M started protesting the behavior of the speaker and at one point of time they invaded the well of the house shouting slogans.
The watch and ward staffs was alerted and they tried to protect the speaker.The CPI-M members shouted slogans against the Speakers ‘partisan’ role and the objectionable words of the minister.
However, the minister today said he did not make any objectionable words and would repeat the same if necessary. The CPI-M members then staged a walkout.
Later Chowdhury told reporters that the Speaker was destroying the democracy and decency of the state assembly. However, after a while they joined the house. FD JK
