CPI-M organised a massive rally in protest against demolishing Baidyanath Majumder’s statue

Agartala, April 19 (FD) The opposition CPI-M in Tripura organised a movement at Kailashahar, the district headquarters of North Tripura on Friday after the statue of the slain left leader Baidyanath Majumder was vandalized under the cover of the darkness and a statue of lord Ram was installed there. 

The protest rally began from Sripur, where the statue of Majumder was installed, which traversed through different parts of the town and ended at the old motor stand. The rally was attended by a large section of the CPI-M activists.

The leader of the opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury, who addressed the rally, said that Baidyanath Majumder was not only a leader of the party but was also the history of the state. “The BJP has not only insulted our leader, but also insulted Lord Ram as they used him as a political tool.

Chowdhury, who is also the state Secretary of the CPI-M, said the BJP should take the responsibility of installing the statue on the same place.

He also criticized the central Government’s move to amend the Waqf Act saying that 73 petitions were filed across the country against the amendment.

Former Minister and a prominent leader of the party, Tapan Chakraborty condemned the act of demolishing the statue and alleged that the BJP party was using the religion for their political gains. FD JK
