Agartala, Sept 23 (FD) The MLAs of opposition CPIM today walked out of the House after the Speaker Ratan Chakraborty denied an adjournment motion at the beginning of the two-day Assembly Session on Friday.
CPIM MLA Tapan Chakraborty on behalf of all 15 MLAs of the opposition party raised the adjournment motion in reference to police’s action during a protest by organized by four Left bodies on September 15 last and in support of their protest against the government's denial to meet student and youth bodies agitating on demand of education and work for all.
Speaking to reporters later in his chamber in the assembly premises, opposition leader Manik Sarkar said, as Speaker Ratan Chakraborty denied the adjournment motion, the Left MLAs staged protest in the well and walked out from the House.
"Our 15 MLAs staged protest in the House but the Speaker tried to keep on working on his own so we had no option but to walk out", Sarkar said.
He said, the notice was all about the incident of September 15 last where police had applied force during a protest rally of four Left wings- SFI, DYFI, TSU and TYF in Agartala with three demands-- education for all, work for all and violence-free Tripura.
With the demands the students and youths were proceeding to submit deputation to the Chief Minister, he added.
The adjournment motion was raised so that the issue could be discussed in the House as the Chief Minster and other ministers don’t generally want to talk, Sarkar said.
He claimed government-run colleges are in tatters in the state and alleged the incumbent government is unable to run the education infrastructure left behind by the erstwhile Left government.
Sarkar termed the BJP-IPFT government "anti-unemployed" and said interviews are being taken, recruitment exams are conducted but results are withheld.
"I don't think they have recruited more than 5-7 thousand people in last 4.5 years and a large share of it was contractual employment. So, it's clear that this government is working against the interests or youths and the unemployed", Manik Sarkar said. FD PD JK
