Agartala, Sept 30 (FD) The CPI (M) state secretary and central committee member, Jiten Chowdhury, criticized the recent 'Tipra Motha' bandh in the ADC areas, alleging that it serves the interests of the BJP. Yesterday speaking at a rally in the Paradise Chowhumoni area of Agartala, Chowdhury argued that the bandh, called for twelve hours, is merely a distraction from pressing issues affecting indigenous tribal communities.
Chowdhury pointed out that the BJP-led central government has failed to pass the 125th constitutional amendment to empower the ADC and include the tribal 'Kokborok' language in the 8th schedule of the constitution. Surprisingly, there has been no significant movement addressing these legitimate tribal demands. He believes that 'Tipra Motha' leaders have launched this bandh to distract from the real concerns of indigenous tribals.
While addressing a gathering of leftist students and youths in Paradise Chowhumoni, Agartala, Chowdhury emphasized that 'Tipraland' demands were raised by the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) in 2018 and 'Greater Tipraland' by 'Tipra Motha' in 2023 solely to assist the BJP in coming to power.
Highlighting the deteriorating condition of tribals under BJP rule in the state and 'Tipra Motha' rule in the ADC, Chowdhury emphasized the alarming situation in Tripura. He noted the collapse of agriculture, 'Jhum' cultivation, healthcare, education, and basic amenities, leading to starvation and dire circumstances. Chowdhury questioned the timing of the bandh and urged sensitivity from the Prime Minister and Home Minister towards the tribals' plight. FD SB JK
