Agartala, Aug 18 (FD) The state secretary of CPI (M) and a central committee member, Jiten Chowdury, has lodged a formal complaint with the chief electoral officer (CEO) accusing the ruling BJP of significant breaches of the model code of conduct, purportedly with the cooperation of election officials.
The complaint revolves around an incident where a CPI (M) procession en route to file nomination was halted under the pretext of being in a restricted area, despite the presence of party supporters in the vicinity.
Chowdury said that the CEO has given assurance of forwarding the matter to the district chief electoral officer for review. Notably, several BJP leaders, including ministers and the chief minister, reportedly engaged in campaigning activities on the same day.
In addition, Chowdury had previously requested the Sepahijala CEO to remove all promotional materials and graffiti, but these actions have not yet been taken.
Chowdury expressed disappointment over what he perceives as a lack of respect for the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), and called for a "level playing field" to be established by the election department.
The upcoming elections have raised concerns over the fair implementation of rules and guidelines, as the political landscape remains dynamic and contested. FD SB
