Agartala, August 31 (FD) The opposition CPI-M in Tripura has strongly criticized the National President of BJP J P Nadda for claiming that that the poll pledges made before the 2018 assembly elections in Vision Document.
“It is a false statement given by Nadda. Most of the promises remained unimplemented and tribals in the ADC gave a befitting reply to BJP by not turning up at Nadda's rally”, he told a press conference at the CPI-M party office here.
"They pushed the state to darkness. The BJP president should have apologized to the state but he certified whatever was done. BJP can't tell the truth. The result is their Khumulwng rally, which remained devoid of people and tribals of ADC gave a befitting reply".
BJP president JP Nadda said all vision document promises were fulfilled by the party-led government here and said he was confident his party would come back to power with two third majority based on its performance in education, health, infrastructure development, women empowerment among other sectors.
Nadda also criticised the Left Front saying shadows of 35 years of Left government were still seen in the state and claimed nothing was done for women empowerment, youths were exploited and tribals were ignored during the Left regime.
Contradicting his claims, Chaudhury, who had been a minister in the Manik Sarkar cabinet and a Lok Sabha MP, said among achievements of the Communist era, women reservation was first introduced in the state. He also said tribals were developed during the Left regime and said Nadda's claims that BJP was synonymous to tribal development was "humiliating" to indigenous communities.
He alleged that benefits of the center's ambitious Rs. 1300 crore project for connectivity and livelihood development in tribal areas weren't reflected in reality.
Chaudhury also contradicted the BJP chief's claims of turning Tripura into gateway of South East Asia and said work for Indo-Bangla connectivity projects like Maitri Setu (friendship bridge) at Belonia started during the Left era. He also said work for upgrading the state's airport to an international standard airport started in the Left tenure when the then government acquired land for the project and finished other formalities.
The BJP-led government simply inaugurated the installation during their tenure, he claimed.
Chaudhury also contradicted the state government's claims of 30 percent per capita income hike and said the hike was unlikely as people have suffered livelihood losses.
"They claimed success in making six national highways in Tripura. There are works going on now but these works were already sanctioned in the previous tenure", Jitendra said adding that credit claimed by the BJP-led government for promoting fruits of Tripura abroad was misplaced and questioned if jackfruit, pineapple orchards expanded in the state in sync with the success stories told by the government.
He also contradicted success claims of the BJP government over a host of other fronts including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), public healthcare, curb in political violence etc and said law and order situation has deteriorated to the extent that people were forced to put up night security teams in the vicinity of Agartala city to check rising incidents of theft and dacoity.
On a different front, Jitendra Chaudhary criticised the assaults on BJP supporters ahead of JP Nadda's rally at Khumulwng yesterday and said while CPIM would continue to fight against the saffron party, it would be done in a democratic manner and not through violent attacks. FD JK
