COVID free year witnesses increased number of Durga Puja, security to be enhanced, says AIG, police

Agartala, 30 Sep (FD) After two years of masked Durga Puja with sparse crowds, the spirit of festivity is stronger than ever when the total number of Durga Puja in Tripura has increased by 330 from 2176 to 2506 this year, said Assistant Inspector of police (AIG), Jyotisman Das Chowdhury.
The police authority has beefed up security throughout the state, especially in the urban areas, where the number pujas are considerably more in number and more protections are required for smooth conduct of Durga Puja, Chowdhury informed a press conference here on Thursday.
The Police AIG further said that last year, the police department had assigned 2400 police personnel and TSR (Tripura State Rifle), however this year the number deployment of security is much higher. The authority has installed 99 CCTV cameras and assigned 130 police vehicles to patrol the streets during Durga Puja.
Das Chowdhury informed that the count of Durga Puja pandals is 979 in urban areas and 1527 in rural areas with 436 puja pandals located in areas under Agartala Municipal Corporation.
AIG reassured that precautions have been taken in advance and patrolling will be strict in sensitive areas. Any citizen who disturbs the peace and smooth celebration in the state will not be treated with leniency. The traffic office has made separate arrangements for smooth celebration.
Tripura Police AIG claimed that the authorities have assigned enough police, TSR and special Police Officers (SPOs).
There will be considerable Traffic restrictions and ‘NO Entry’ signs will be put-up on some streets for a certain period to keep the crowd in control. FD DM
